NextSeat privacy policy
NextSeat is a multiplayer game app for playing with people who are physically near you over a shared local network (Wi-Fi or Bluetooth). This policy describes what data NextSeat handles and how.
1. Who is responsible for NextSeat?
NextSeat is developed by Lidbit. You can contact us at [email protected].
2. What data does NextSeat collect?
NextSeat does not collect, store, transmit, or share any of your data with the developer or any third party. Specifically:
- We do not operate any backend servers.
- We do not use any analytics, advertising, crash-reporting, or attribution SDKs.
- We do not read your contacts, photos, location, microphone, camera, or any other system data source.
- We do not track you across apps or websites.
Everything described below is stored locally on your device only, or exchanged directly with the other players in your local game session.
3. What data does NextSeat handle on your device?
The following pieces of information are stored on your device using the system-provided private
storage mechanism (SharedPreferences on Android, NSUserDefaults on iOS).
They are never transmitted to us.
- A randomly-generated player id. Created the first time you launch the app and used to recognise you across reconnects within a game session. This id is not linked to your Apple/Google account or any other identifier.
- Your display name. Defaults to a random "Player ####" — you can change it at any time.
- Your sound-effects preference and Terms acceptance flag.
- The ids of any players you have muted in the chat.
You can clear all of this at any time by uninstalling the app.
4. What data is exchanged with other players?
When you join a game lobby, the following information is exchanged directly with the other devices in the lobby over the local network:
- Your display name and player id.
- Your moves in the active game.
- Any chat messages you send.
This data is peer-to-peer: it travels directly between devices on the same Wi-Fi/Bluetooth network. NextSeat does not relay it through any intermediate server, and the developer does not have access to it.
Game chat messages and game state are not retained by the app after the session ends, except for a per-player win/loss tally that the host device keeps for the lobby's leaderboard while the lobby is open.
5. Permissions NextSeat uses
| Permission | Why we ask |
|---|---|
| Local network (iOS) / Wi-Fi state (Android) | Discovering other players on the same network using Bonjour / Network Service Discovery. |
| Bluetooth | Connecting to nearby players when Wi-Fi isn't available. |
6. Children's privacy
NextSeat is suitable for all ages, but we do not knowingly direct the app at children under 13. Because the app exposes a chat feature, parents and guardians should help younger players understand how to use the in-app mute and report controls.
7. Moderation, mute and report
NextSeat includes an in-app chat that lets you talk to the other players in your local session. To keep that experience safe:
- Mute: long-press any chat message to mute the sender on your device. Muted players' messages will not appear in your chat until you unmute them in Settings → Chat → Muted players. Mutes persist across launches.
- Report: long-press any chat message and choose "Report message". This opens an email to the developer with the message text and the sender's player id prefilled. We review every report received at [email protected] and may permanently block bad actors from receiving support and from accessing future versions of the app.
- Zero-tolerance policy: there is absolutely no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behaviour from any user. See the in-app Terms of Use for the full text.
8. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that affects how data is handled, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top and publish the change at the same URL where the current version is hosted.
9. Contact
Questions, concerns, or data-related requests: [email protected].
